A Cooperstown man was fatally injured and a Cooperstown girl suffered a suspected serious injury as a result of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 322 and Sugarcreek Drive in Sugarcreek on Saturday afternoon, according to Franklin state police.
A 1955 Chevrolet Coupe 210, driven by Larry R. Rarer Sr., 75, and a 2008 Toyota Tundra, driven by Aron J. Green, 37, of Franklin, were traveling west on Route 322 at about 4 p.m. when Green stopped to turn left onto Sugarcreek Drive and waited for oncoming traffic to clear before attempting to turn, according to police. Rarer did not slow down his vehicle and struck Green's vehicle from behind, police said.
Rarer's vehicle came to a final stop in the middle of the intersection and Green's vehicle came to a final stop on Route 322.
Rarer's 13-year-old passenger suffered a head injury and was transported to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh by Stat MedEvac, police said.
Green wasn't injured, police said.
Community Ambulance Service also responded to the scene, according to police. Volunteer fire departments from Rocky Grove, Reno and Utica also responded to the scene, which was cleared at 6:23 p.m., according to Venango County 911.
